Antarctica’s isolation and inaccessibility are indeed central to its mystique. They’ve shielded it from human exploration for centuries and still make it one of the least understood regions on Earth. Yet, this very remoteness shouldn’t obscure the urgency of the changes unfolding there. The continent is a sleeping giant—its ice, volcanoes, and tectonic stability are deeply interconnected, and as we push the climate system to its limits, what happens in Antarctica won’t stay in Antarctica.
