Once upon a time, a young man was always busy with work and had no time for leisure. His demanding job took up most of his day, and when he was not working, he would work out, take french lessons or attend the reading club. By the time he got home, he was inevitably exhausted.
Every single day.
But deep inside, he was longing for some downtime. The problem was he felt guilty whenever he tried to relax, thinking he should be doing something productive instead, like putting play to that side hustle project or taking a stretching class.
One day, while surfing the internet, he stumbled upon an article with Jerry Seinfeld, in which the comedian talked about the concept of “Garbage Time.” Seinfeld explained that garbage time was the time we usually waste doing mundane tasks like commuting, waiting in line, or doing household chores. Even taking that bowl of Cap’n Crunch at 11 pm after you washed your teeth. Instead of seeing these moments as a waste of time, Seinfeld suggested that we cherish them and use them to our advantage.
